Well, to restore some balance from a rather unnecessary comment left yesterday - what a lovely photo of you! If Joan Collins is the face of Cellex C, then you should be the face of Creme de Mer!
How wonderful!
Linda, congratulations!
While I must confess that I'd not heard of the Brooker before I started reading your blog and had to Wiki it to really comprehend its importance - I understand what a feather in your cap this is!
I've been reading your blog for the past year and point to it often from mine - the quality of thought and writing I find here was apparent from day one. I’ve not had the pleasure of reading any of your books, but if you blog is any indication - this nomination is well deserved!
Fantastic news! Best of luck...and yes, it's a lovely photo!
And, from the New York Times this morning: "Rushdie Snubbed on Booker Shortlist"

Sorry...as a regular reader of this blog and a member of your perhaps unofficial international fan club here, I again say bravo -- and a great shot of you, too.
That's a great photo! Again, congratulations and I'm sacrificing some asparagus to the literary dieties for good luch for you. (Not that you need it, mind you!)
luck. not luch.
Perhaps it's time to replace that mugshot in The Guardian that is 12 years old, and doesn't do you justice. You're positively glowing in this latest pic.
If memory serves me correctly, Booker judges rather like debut novels, and more men than women have won.
Your evocative, poetic novel stayed with me long after I had finished reading it.
I hope the judges have found it similarly indelible.
Wow, congratulations on being nominated, and good luck! I gotta get your book.
Well done Linda-and 3:1 odds at William Hill too! I must second the comments that that is a lovely photo of you in the linked article, and I was really surprised to read your age-I would've guessed much younger, must look into getting myself some Creme de la Mer!
Don't rush out and get that creme de la mer - that pic was taken in 2000 by the Evening Standard, the day after I won the Orange Prize
Brilliant. Many congrats - heard Portillo talk about it on the radio yesterday.
Fuss indeed! Enjoy this time--I'm hoping to read your name at the top of the list!
Okay, so think what clothes you can buy with the prize money! I loved the book by the way.
Congratulations! Such marvellous news, I will eagerly await the outcome of the Man Booker.
Congratulations, Linda!
Care to comment on why there have been so few female winners? Here's to hoping the statistics start to balance out in 2008!
I gather the Booker must be practically 2nd only to the Nobel Prize. Do we have something roughly comparable to the Booker over across the pond?
-K in the USA
I had been trying to find the odds on the net before I posted a comment y'day...3:1 odds sound very good!
Congratulations! Good luck. My best wishes are with you.
Lovely photo!
Christine
