Small post of little interest

I don't imagine there'll be a lot of interest in this, but the Telegraph on Sunday had a special issue on 25 ways to look younger which don't involve surgery. I've already made a booking for one treatment, but that's just me, I can't imagine anyone else would be remotely bothered to check out any of this stuff.

I've done Alexander Technique and it does work miracles. Trouble is you need to do it over a long period and it gets expensive. I also had my colours done years ago and swear by it. It's stopped me making hugely expensive mistakes. Means I can't wear that lovely dark purple/plum colour in the shops this season. I fancy the acupuncture facial and have promised myself teeth-whitening when I next get some "me" money. What puts me off is for it to work my dentist says I will need to have fillings replaced parallel to it. Thanks for drawing our attention to this, Linda. PS Which treatment have you gone for? Not those heavy duty exercise classes, I bet! You're far too cool for that!

I've decided to go for facial massage. I have my first appointment a week today. I don't really have lines, I have sag.

I wouldn't say I was too cool for heavy duty exercise, too lazy.

I can recommend Pure Massage. They're excellent.

I wonder if there's really anything to those cellulite treatments....

I imagine not.

It was nice to see that "a good nights sleep" made the list! That's got to be the least exepensive and easiest to accomplish.

I have been doing Pilates and intensive aerobic exercise three times a week. At present they both seem to have the desired impact.

I bought Eva Fraser’s Facial Exercise book when it was first published in the 80s. The facial exercises need to be performed regularly and I often can not be bothered doing them because they require a high degree of concentration.

I have been considering taking some Alexander technique classes. I read somewhere that Helen Mirren has been a disciple of the Alexander technique.

Three hurrahs for Pilates. It is widely considered to be the most effective exericse that has the lowest possible injury risk. Anyone from eight to 88 can do it. It's been available in the UK since about 1980. Gordon Thomson at the Pineapple Studio in South Kensington was the first Pilates guru...altho it was for mainly for ballet dancers recovering from injuries, and intensely focused on abdominal work. It has expanded its repertoire considerably since then, and practitioners now come from all sorts of fields.

It richly deserves its place on a top list for health and wellbeing.

A Pilates body and posture is an enviable thing, and much more interesting and fun. I'll pass on the sweat, bump and grind stuff, thanks.

I have tried Pilates and really tried to convince myself that I liked it. But despite my teacher's amazing figure and professional approach in all honesty I find it rather boring. I much prefer yoga which I find much more holistic.

That's about £6,000 to only try the various supports (given the top hairdresser etc. and a month or more of meals and exercise classes).

Why are we so terrified of looking old?

Yes, yoga is superbly wholistic. I like it as much as pilates which has borrowed concepts from yoga, particularly for mat work.

Yes, I'm scared of looking old. I look after my skin well, have whitened my teeth, I color my hair, exercise when I'm motivated and eat more sensibly now than I used to and have regular medical check ups. All within my budget.

If I look old, it goes against me in my line of work and would deter promotion, and as the sole parent of two daughters, I need to be as financially capable as possible.

And my partner is a lot younger and cuter than I am! When we're out together, I don't want any confusion!
