Misogynists' corner

Women in a northern Malaysian city ruled by conservative Islamists are being urged to forsake bright lipstick and noisy high heels in an effort to preserve their dignity and avoid rape.
. . .
Loud high-heel shoes should also be avoided, though if women insisted on wearing them the heels could be padded with rubber to mute the sound.

Two-thirds of Malaysians are Malay Muslim, while the other ethnic groups - mainly Chinese and Indians - follow other faiths.

The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party scored a huge success in the general election three months ago, winning an unprecedented number of seats that propelled it out of its Kelantan backwater powerbase on to the national political stage.

and so on

We all know that barefoot or ill-shod women in refugee camps are NEVER raped.

I recently read a report in French Elle from the 'cites' in the banlieues of Paris, where girls are afraid to go out wearing 'le slim' (skinny jeans) for fear of being seen as 'putes' (prostitutes) and leaving themselves open to abuse and attck. It's shocking to know this sort of thing goes on so close to home.

Oh jeez. It's stuff like this that makes me not-so-happy to be Muslim, sadly. How about putting chastity belts on the men instead? Or one of those nasty Victorian era contraptions that were supposed to prevent um...them getting up? Lame. There are bigger, badder things to worry about.

The measures in Malaysia sound quite draconian, or should that be Talibanian, but as Robo says, there are more worrisome things in the world, and the media need to sensationalise small changes in Islamic culture rather less than they do.

The same people once stated that pretty women should not be employed because they would distract their male co-workers. The views expressed the Malaysian Pan-Islamic Party are routinely sexist and misogynistic, and appall many Malaysians. Good thing they're confined to a couple of states up north -- I'd like to see them enforce their beliefs in any one of our cities here.

Gangster rap music video clips are just as misogynistic. Could someone please have a bitch about those?
