On the catwalk

Ines de la Fressange, aged 51, on the catwalk for Jean-Paul Gaultier at the Paris Couture collections.

Fashion models “are not just 14-year-olds,” Mr. Gaultier said later. “There are no [age] barriers to beauty.” The French designer explained that the curvy Ms. de la Fressange embodied the sexuality demanded his raunchy Spanish themed show, which also featured high-waisted pinstripe pants for women, suspenders and elbow-length gloves.

Ines' curves and mine are slightly different in scale.

Well, I have heard that Jean-Paul does cut trousers to flatter curvy women, but Ines de la Fressange, beautiful though she undoubtedly is, could ever in a million years be described as having curves.

And please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Catherine Deneuve who was used to personify Marianne?

Linda - see what I mean about fashion journalists?

Yes, I thought the description of Ine de la Fressange as "voluptuous" was bordering on the ironic, personally. I guess because her pelvis is not sticking out of her body qualifies her for that.

pixie, several Frenchwomen have been used to personify Marianne, including Deneuve and Inès de la Fressange. Bardot was the first.

Inès is a lovely woman, but has never been remotely curvy, or "voluptuous".

Curvy????
By whose standards, gay male designers, and annorexic fashion editors?
Ines is rocking the runway, good for her at 51.

BTW...speaking of lack of curves...have you seen the Akris ad?

She looks lovely and just glowing! (But not "curvy.")

Unless she is cleverly disguising a hunchback, I can't see anything resembling curves as I know them. This aside, she looks fantastic, very classy, very French.

Belle de Ville, thank you for mentioning that appalling Akris ad. If she is a victim of tragic circumstances then I admire her imperishable style, but if not then what is this company saying?
