I woke up this morning feeling a little bit like it was Christmas. Here's hoping htere's no coal in my stocking...
Here's my considered opinion, based on talking to one of the American writers at Toronto who had been working for Obama in Virginia: if all those who are registered to vote are able to actually cast their vote, and if those votes are counted with no monkey business, then I predict an Obama landslide. But I also predict a lot of problems at the polling stations, including an inability to cope with the turn-out which may mean legal challenges.
Yes, Linda, we are already seeing: huge lines, broken machines, not enough machines, etc. etc. It's going to be a very very long night.
I will be watching with some American friends who have already cast their absentee ballots in the crucial battleground district of, er, Manhattan. There will also be a Canadian and a South Africa. We'll be drinking wine, eating pumpkin soup, popcorn, chips and I have purchased New York Style Cheescake (Marks and Spencer's) and carrot cake. I think my American friends, both Upper West Side Jewish Democrats, plan to stay up till the last two Florida lawyers kill each other, or the inauguration whichever is sooner.
I'm sure ACORN, which Obama has been associated with,is mucking things up with hundreds of thosands of fraudulent voter registrations. As former Chicago Mayor Daley once said, famously, vote early and often.
I do think if you are going to make allegations like this it would be useful if you could put a name to your post, even if it is a pseudonym so we can distinguish between the various anonymous posters.
