About me
Linda Grant is a novelist and journalist. She won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2000 and the Lettre Ulysses Prize for Literary Reportage in 2006. She writes for the Guardian, Telegraph and Vogue. Her latest novel, The Clothes on Their Backs was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize. Why does Madonna have such an aversion against pants? Does she hate the peg-leg so much?
Well I would be so disappointed if she suddenly turned up for a concert in a pair of trousers and an angora cardie! It's not as though she's attempting a classicly girly look; Madonna's a hard woman. The particularly joyous thing is that she has always done interesting things with gender and shows every sign of continuing to challenge, which is why I adore her.

She's not really exceptional. Name me one rock chick who has aged well.
Madonna is a good example of what happens when you have a body fat percentage in the low single figures. She works hard for it, but this is NOT a good look for her.
Ageing rock chicks - Deborah Harry always looked fabulous. She also managed to keep her clothes on, which may have helped.
I agree with Jo... she needs to wear some pants.
Ballet legend Dame Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991) danced until she was 60. But I couldn't find any images to rival the creepiness of this photo of Madonna.
