Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - what?

In the comments Anonymous writes:

In response to annonymous's problem of grey olive skin in winter, I have used for many years Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (Eclat de Beaute) every morning over moisturiser. It is a lovely peachy colour in the tube and a very light application gives a dewy glow as if you've just come in from a blowy walk along the seashore. It suits my Anglo Italian complexion perfectly and avoids any need for foundation or powder, thus allowing the scrubbed French look you mention. I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

I find these comments baffling. I have tried Beauty Flash Balm and have never noticed a blind bit of difference, whether under or foundation, or without it. As for it obviating the need for foundation, ha! I am convinced that this must work for some types of skin, but not others, because I have repeatedly had this conversation with the many members of the League of the Beauty Flash Balm Mystified.

The clarins balm works a treat on my male skin. Especially when hungover. Just makes it look freshly scrubbed rather than a dried up husk. Interstingly clarins do a male version of the balm - the only difference i can fathom is that it's blue in colour and more expensive than the womens version. Which is no surprise as these potion and lotion manufacturers try and make a quick buck by cashing in on the male grooming boom!

Great comment! You really had me chuckling. I think the key words here are grey, olive, winter and French scrubbed look!

I thought I was the only one that it had no effect on. I think it’s a complete waste of money and cannot understand how it is always in those `Best Beauty Buys' lists. I have also tried Barbara Daly's Face Lift from Tesco and that does seem to give a slight brightening effect.

Was it written by someone with a vested interest in the product, d'you think? Good you picked it up and didn't allow it to pass without challenging it.

Oh dear! Today is the first time I have ever written anything on a blog, and all I wanted to do was offer some helpful advice to someone who seemed to have the same winter skin problem as me. I do not have any vested interest in the product at all - but I do receive many many compliments about my skin.

It's clear from the comments that this is a product which does work for some people and doesn't work for others. Personally, I wouldn't be without Creme de la Mer, but others hate it.

Thanks Linda. I've wanted to try Creme de Mer for a long time, but they do not do samples. In fact, to continue your ongoing comparison between French and British beauty culture, I would say this is a big difference. In France you get a handful with every purchase, whereas here you need to get down on your knees.

If you spend enough they hand out samples here - £100 seems to do it. Though I have never bought Creme de la Mer so I don't know if it will work with that
