LaDress: the verdict

My LaDress dress arrived.

On the plus side: Prompt delivery, excellent packaging, good colour, well made

On the negative side: It was about three sizes smaller than my UK size. Partly because it turns out it is not an A line dress but falls in a straight line from the shoulders with no give for the hips. It's not cut for a pear-shape at all. The kick-flare in the skirt near the hem creates the illusion that it is. Also because, in a very rare occurrence for me, it is rather tight even on the top which means the overall cut is far smaller than its UK equivalent.

I recommend a Wall pima cotton dress with a small gather under the bust. Mine is black from last season, now is available in fawn (I think) Extraordinarily comfortable, maybe too casual for your needs.

Thanks but neutrals don't suit me and I'm looking for something a bit more dressy.

It is sooo difficult to buy online. Does Liberty not have something appropriate?

Bummer.

That is SO annoying and exactly the trouble with buying online

You find it Linda - we're rooting for you!

No. I don't believe I am going to find it. This morning I tried on a Antik Batik dress at Whistles. Fabulous print, great shape, but it came above the knee. Every single dress in the shop came above the knee on me. I am 5 feet 5. And that's Whistles, which is not exactly cutting edge.

There are only two dress lengths available for now - short or long. Plus, going into spring it's extremely difficult to find anything with sleeves. I think you should turn your sights to something else, otherwise you will end up buying something that isn't really special just because it fits the criteria.

and to prove my point - you could completely lose your bearings and wind up with THIS http://www.earthboundcreations.com/ccp0-prodshow/FALL07EBC%97TQD.html

Oh no I won't.

I don't think you will.

The LaDress site made me think of a lovely fabric shop here near me "Madeleine soies et laines". I happened upon some exquisite Italian-made knit fabrics in the loveliest colours. Oh, if I had learned to sew. (kuri will chide me).

I'm sorry that one didn't work out. do you like it enough to re-order it in a larger size?

No, because a dress which is cut straight up and down will always be too big on top if it fits on the hips. That shape will never fit me, whatever size it is.
