Ah, the "December Problem" - I don't get really upset with it because the holiday has been so commercialized in the United States that except within truly religious families, inside their homes, the import to Christianity really has been almost totally drained away. Which is actually too bad, since it really is a keystone of the faith.
Our family spends a few evenings strolling the neighborhood enjoying everyone's Christmas lights. As someone said recently, "we get most of the enjoyment with none of the work." I also enjoy the non-religious Christmas music (Vince Garaldi's "Charlie Brown Christmas" is still a fave).
Well, I'm a Christian--from the prevalent culture and all (though we dwindle, alas)--and we don't complain that Hanukkah has too many Jewish symbols, or that the Muslims talk too much about Allah! What a strange complaint! I would say even an impartial observer would conclude that Christmas is less Christian with every passing year--which is not to say that I object to the lights, which I very much enjoy!
