I think she looks completely fabulous. Is there something wrong with me? She's beautiful in herself, whatever her age and that necklace is wonderful. Someone tell me what I'm missing...what would she look like if she'd been "properly" turned out??
Meryl Streep is, of course, beautiful in herself, the age is not the issue, and the necklace is indeed fabulous, but as most people who saw her at Oscars felt, the outfit was not well put together and not particularly flattering to her marvellous figure.
I also don't think that a necklace that large goes with that neckline (there are actually two necklaces), indeed the whole outfit seems to swamp her. Something is missing, and it is elegance.
I agree. Meryl Streep is stunning, but there's no cohesion to this ensemble.
I was thinking that it needs a little less cohesion, actually, since it's all rather loose and romantic, and instead needs some balance. Even just taking off the larger necklace would help considerably, because the looseness throughout is actually looking somewhat heavy, like gravity is getting the better of her. I'm not sure I'd ever like short and straight wide sleeves in a black anyway--it's just too weighty-- but I think the dress's neckline has to be kept clean and sharp to avoid the "shapeless all over" look.
She could shine wearing a burlap sack.
That said, I don't love what she's wearing, but it won't change my mind about how talented she is.
And the neckline doesn't offer enough white space for the necklace to live comfortably.
I have a dear friend who easily pulls off huge dramatic southwestern US jewelry, and an amazing Ethiopian cross. She is 6'2".
I think Dana has it, you need to be tall to pull off jewelry this size
I thought it was Miuccia Prada - then I put on my contacts.
Actually, her dress is Prada
But even my tall friend would never put a contrasting belt with all that cinnabar, or whatever she's got on there.
